The reigning Super Bowl champs clamped down on Patrick Mahomes!
The Seattle Seahawks minimized the three-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback’s impact on Sunday, Oct. 25, throttling the Kansas City Chiefs in primetime, 20-3, in what is being described as one of the worst performances of Mahomes’ career.
Mahomes, 31, appeared frustrated during the contest as the quarterback struggled to get the passing game going — he went 19 for 33 for 165 yards and an interception — while running back Kenneth Walker Jr.’s efforts were nullified by his former Seahawks teammates.
Hamstrung by the absence of wide receivers Rashee Rice and Tyquan Thornton, Mahomes’ options were limited — and the team did not once make it inside the red zone (20-yard line to goal line) for the first time in the Mahomes era.
Travis Kelce, who has reached the end zone twice this season, finished with just four receptions for 44 yards.
The team combined for 213 total yards on offense, the lowest total in a regular-season game with Mahomes at quarterback. And for the first time in the coach Andy Reid era, the Chiefs failed to make an “explosive play” or one that involves a 10-yard run or 20-yard pass.
“You got your tail kicked,” Mahomes said after the game. “Didn’t execute offensively, especially around that midfield area. Kept us away from a lot of points, or at least enough points to be competitive.”

He continued, “But it’s stuff you’ve got to learn from. That’s obviously a really good defense, and we didn’t execute at a high enough level to have success.”
At one point, even Sunday Night Football analyst Cris Collinsworth, a noted “Mahomeboy,” called out the quarterback’s vibe, in which he was seen staring into the middle distance repeatedly.
“That’s the second time I’ve seen that look on Patrick Mahomes’s face,” Collinsworth said. “When he went back and recovered that fumble earlier, I saw that same sort of ‘I can’t believe this is happening to me’ look. There it is again. Have you ever seen that look on Patrick Mahomes?”
With Seattle’s defense locked in, Mahomes said he thought his mindset at the start of the game contributed to the loss.

“Obviously a little bit, but I thought especially early in the game, I thought my feet were kind of getting me into trouble where I could have maybe sat in the pocket and made some of the throws down the field,” Mahomes said. “I got better a little bit later in the game. But at the same time, when you play a team like that, you can’t let them get ahead and get into a game they want to play.”
He added, “Obviously they’ve had a lot of success doing that, and so [we’ve] got to be better starting faster — especially with me — and then try to do better throughout the entire game.”
Sunday’s game marked the Chiefs’ first loss of the season. They return to action on Sunday, Nov. 1, with a visit to the Denver Broncos.
