Nebraska football has announced a special blackout theme and uniforms for this Saturday's game against the Washington Huskies at Memorial Stadium. The Huskers will wear black alternate jerseys and a black helmet with a script Huskers logo.
This year's blackout theme is "Our Red Burns Brighter." The design was inspired by the night-game atmosphere at Memorial Stadium.
Along with the primary black, the jersey features metallic red accents inspired by the glow of flames and fireworks, and the vibrant red that shines throughout Memorial Stadium on game day.
The jersey pairs with a black helmet that debuts the iconic Huskers script in metallic red. The metallic red stripe on top of the helmet features the crop row pattern, paying homage to the state's agricultural heritage.
The Huskers (5-2, 2-2) are coming off a bye week and enter the weekend on a two-game losing streak after starting the season 5-0. Washington (4-3, 1-3) defeated Purdue 38-28 last Friday for the Huskies' first Big Ten win of the season.
This will be the 11th meeting all-time between these two schools. Nebraska leads the series 5-4-1, with the Huskers winning the last matchup 51-28 in 2011.
This is the second straight year Nebraska has held a blackout game. Last season, the Huskers hosted USC and lost 21-17. Nebraska's blackout game against Washington kicks off at 7 p.m. CT and will be shown on BTN.
