Bangladeshi actress Pori Moni has announced her upcoming film “Farzana” on her birthday, marking her return to hosting birthday celebrations after a two-year break following the death of her grandfather in 2023.
The poster for the film was unveiled at her birthday celebration last Saturday. Directed by Tarek Rahman, “Farzana” has largely been shot in secrecy, with much of the filming already completed.
Pori Moni revealed that the look for the film was finalised six months ago, but various complications delayed the production. She said the team had kept the project under wraps until they could make an official announcement.
“The look for the film was finalised six months ago, but due to various complications, it took time to move the project forward. That is why we did not announce it earlier. If everything goes according to plan, filming will wrap up soon. I felt there could be no better occasion than my birthday to announce a new film,” she said.
The screenplay centres on a woman’s struggles, motherhood and the harsh realities of life. Rahman has written the script alongside directing the film. Although he has previously made several television dramas and short films, “Farzana” will be his feature-film debut.
Describing the project, Rahman said it tells the story of a woman navigating life’s challenges alone, with each day bringing a new struggle. He expressed hope that the film would introduce audiences to a different side of Pori Moni as an actor.
A newcomer will play the male lead opposite Pori Moni, while Sushama Sarker is among the other cast members. According to the director, the team is planning to release the film during Eid-ul-Fitr next year, provided production is completed on schedule.
Pori Moni was last seen on the big screen in “Felubakshi”, which marked her Tollywood debut in January 2025. Her other upcoming projects include “Dodor Golpo”, directed by Reza Ghatak with government funding, as well as “Golap”, directed by Shamsul Huda, and “Shasti”, directed by Leesa Gazi.
Nirab Hossain will star opposite her in “Golap”, while Chanchal Chowdhury is her co-star in “Shasti”.
