The Sambrial-Kharian Motorway will reduce the travel distance between Lahore and Rawalpindi by 100 kilometers and save more than an hour of travel time, Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan said.
Addressing the business community at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Khan highlighted the project’s expected benefits for commuters and transport networks. The shorter route is expected to make journeys between the two cities more efficient.
The minister did not announce a completion date for the motorway during his address. Khan also discussed financial reforms at the National Highway Authority (NHA), saying the authority was working to raise its revenue from Rs. 66 billion to Rs. 160 billion while capping administrative expenses at Rs. 50 billion.
He said the NHA was prioritizing infrastructure development and improving its financial management to support road construction without placing an additional burden on the public exchequer.
The minister also emphasized cooperation with the business community, saying officials from the Ministry of Communications, the NHA and the Motorway Police would hold regular meetings with Lahore Chamber representatives to address concerns affecting trade and industry.
