Another four teams will be on a bye during Week 8, including the San Francisco 49ers and the New York Giants. Add that to injuries continuing to pile up across the league and many fantasy football managers might need help off the waiver wire. Here are five players to consider adding who are still available in the majority of Yahoo leagues.
Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Targets For Week 8
1. Omar Cooper Jr., WR, New York Jets (48% rostered)
Cooper took advantage of a favorable matchup against the Dolphins on Sunday, posting five receptions for 115 yards and one touchdown. It was his second straight game with at least 100 yards and a touchdown. He logged 34 offensive snaps, compared to 22 snaps for Adonai Mitchell, who was returning from a four-game absence because of a finger injury. Cooper looks to be the WR2 on the Jets and has a great matchup in Week 8 against a Raiders team that allows the seventh-most yards per target to wide receivers.
2. Jonah Coleman, RB, Denver Broncos (35% rostered)
Coleman was sidelined four straight games with an ankle injury before making his return in Week 7 against the Cardinals. He ran nine times for 54 yards in the matchup, also catching two passes for 15 yards. He logged 28 snaps, compared to 14 snaps for RJ Harvey and 12 snaps for J.K. Dobbins. The Broncos having a big lead might have impacted his workload, but Dobbins and Harvey are averaging 3.4 and 3.6 yards per carry, so they haven’t exactly stood out. Coleman’s role could continue to increase as the season moves along.
3. Chiq Okonkwo, TE, Washington Commanders (17% rostered)
The Commanders are set to play without Terry McLaurin (knee) for the remainder of the season. They had Week 7 off to try and regroup and will likely turn to Stefon Diggs to lead their passing attack moving forward. However, their wide receiver options behind Diggs leave a lot to be desired. Okonkwo dealt with his own injury issues earlier in the season, but has been targeted 13 times over the last two games. He caught four passes for 60 yards against the Giants, then reeled in seven receptions for 69 yards versus the 49ers. He could certainly be the team’s number two receiving option moving forward.
4. Kendrick Bourne, WR, Arizona Cardinals (18% rostered)
The undisputed leaders among the Cardinals’ receiving options are Trey McBride and Michael Wilson. However, following the trade of Marvin Harrison Jr. to the Texans, there are targets up for grabs. Bourne only had three receptions for nine yards against the Broncos last week, but he was targeted six times. Over the last three games, he received a total of 22 targets. Week 8 brings a matchup against a Cowboys team that allows the sixth-most yards per target to wide receivers, making Bourne a viable fantasy option in PPR leagues.
5. Dylan Sampson, RB, Cleveland Browns (8% rostered)
Quinshon Judkins had two touchdowns against the Titans last week and is the clear top rushing option for the Browns. Where Sampson makes an impact is in the passing game. In his return from a five-game absence because of a knee injury, he had three receptions for 32 yards against the Titans. He also turned six carries into 45 yards. If you play in a deep PPR league and injuries have hit your running back position, Sampson is at least worth considering.
Takeaway
Cooper and Coleman are two young players who could make a significant impact down the stretch in fantasy football. Okonkwo and Bourne have the potential to benefit from thinned out depth charts, while Sampson has deep-league appeal in PPR formats.
