Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has defended polygamy, arguing that having multiple wives is not a sin and that some men may be destined to have more than one wife.
Edochie stated this in a post via his X handle while reacting to reports about an American pastor, Israel Ford, who recently introduced his second wife, Shakayla, to his congregation.
“POLYGAMY IS NOT A SIN,” the actor wrote.
He argued that several prominent men in the Bible had multiple wives without facing condemnation from God.

“Even in the bible, many great men there had many wives and God never had issues with them. He was even willing to give them more,” he said.
Edochie also suggested that some men settle for monogamous marriages because they are unaware of their supposed destiny or fear society’s reaction.

“Today, many men are destined to have many wives, but because they don’t know who they are and are scared of what society will say, they end up having just one and life doesn’t seem to be working for them,” he added.
Ford, who pastors LifeWorks Church in Wickliffe, Ohio, shared a video on Facebook on Sunday showing him alongside his first wife, Lydia Ford, and his new wife during the announcement.
Introducing his second wife, the cleric wrote, “I would like to introduce to the world, my second wife, Shakayla Ford!!!”
Ford also argued that the belief that marriage should be restricted to one wife was not supported by the Bible.
“As a nation, we have been taught that a man should have one wife only. This is unbiblical,” he said.
