Nvidia says the RTX 5090 isn’t discontinued, but getting the parts to build one is reportedly becoming harder. At least one board partner can no longer order GPU and memory kits — even on backorder — while reduced cooler orders raise fresh questions about the flagship’s future availability.
Nvidia is reportedly no longer accepting orders from at least one board partner for the GPU and memory kits used to build the GeForce RTX 5090. Even backorders are reportedly unavailable, raising fresh questions about future supply despite Nvidia’s assurances that the flagship card has not been discontinued.
According to German overclocker and tech blogger Roman “der8auer” Hartung, the unnamed manufacturer can no longer order Blackwell GB202 GPUs bundled with 32 GB of GDDR7 memory. It also cannot place backorders for the components.
Nvidia, meanwhile, maintains that the RTX 5090 will continue shipping. In a response to Hartung, the company said the card had not been discontinued, although production capacity remains constrained. That echoes comments Nvidia executive Jeff Fisher made earlier this month.
The board partner told Hartung it had received no end-of-life notification for the RTX 5090 but did not know whether Nvidia would resume accepting orders for the component kits. During previous shortages, the manufacturer could still place orders and wait for stock. That option is reportedly no longer available.
The ordering restrictions do not, on their own, establish that RTX 5090 production has stopped. It also remains unclear whether they affect all Nvidia board partners or only the manufacturer Hartung contacted.
A separate cooling-system supplier contacted by Hartung pointed to another sign of reduced production plans. The supplier said two board partners had substantially reduced their projected orders for RTX 5090 coolers for the first quarter of 2027 compared with the third quarter of 2026. It had received no orders for RTX 5090 coolers for the second quarter of 2027.
The RTX 5090 is also absent from Nvidia’s US Marketplace, while Micro Center lists it as “Not Carried.” Together, these reports and listings suggest tighter availability, but they do not confirm an end to production. Nvidia continues to say shipments will continue.
