Cairo – The Egyptian House of Representatives approved on Monday a mandate authorizing President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to take all necessary measures, in coordination with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to defend its territory.
This came during the third closed session held today, chaired by Counselor Hisham Badawi, with a two-thirds majority of the members of parliament.
President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi had requested parliamentary authorization to take defensive measures to support the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The parliament held two sessions on Sunday and Monday of last week, during which it heard from a large number of representatives from various political orientations.
The House of Representatives voted on the resolution by roll call, in accordance with the constitution, which stipulates that the parliament must approve by a two-thirds majority of its members to send the armed forces on a combat mission outside the country's borders, after consulting the National Defense Council.
