Giannis Antetokounmpo’s much-anticipated era with the Miami Heat has started on the wrong foot. The Heat have dropped their first three games, looking to end their frustrating skid as they hosted the Dallas Mavericks at Kaseya Center on Monday.
Antetokounmpo displayed a sense of urgency from the outset, setting the tempo for Miami on both ends with his aggressiveness and activity.
By the third quarter, he had already recorded his first triple-double with the Heat, tallying his 10th assist with a kick-out pass to Davion Mitchell, who connected from three-point range.

The 31-year-old Antetokounmpo has truly developed into an all-around player. The two-time MVP has come a long way from being a raw prospect relying primarily on his athleticism and length to make an impact.
While his physical gifts remain a major part of his two-way dominance, Antetokounmpo has learned to use them more effectively with his deeper understanding of the game.
Antetokounmpo now has 61 triple-doubles in his career, including the playoffs.
The do-it-all superstar said he expected the birth pains in his first season with the Heat. But he also stressed that they need a spark real soon.
“We’ve seen it. We know it’s here. I don’t know if it’s getting to know one another more now because they’re official games. I don’t know if it’s jitters, a little bit nervous, new season, I don’t know what it is. You gotta shock the team, and this is what we are going through right now,” said Antetokounmpo.
As of this writing, the Heat are trailing the Mavericks in the third quarter. Antetokounmpo has 27 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 assists.
