Thousands of Serbians flooded the streets of Belgrade in celebration after Aleksandar Vučić conceded defeat to a student-led movement in Sunday’s parliamentary election, ending his party’s long dominance of the country’s politics.
The victory follows nearly two years of student-led protests sparked by a railway station canopy collapse in Novi Sad in 2024 that killed 16 people.

Demonstrators accused the government of corruption and demanded greater accountability.
With preliminary projections giving the Student List between 135 and 140 seats in the 250-member parliament, the result marks a major political shift in the Balkan nation.
However, the movement now faces the challenge of turning its promises of reform into effective governance.
