Green Delta Insurance PLC has hosted a reception for Sayeed Ahmed, MP, president of the Bangladesh Insurance Association (BIA), on his election as chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Public Administration.
The reception was held on Monday evening (26 October, 2026) at Hotel Renaissance in Gulshan, Dhaka, according to a press release.
The event brought together leading figures from the country's insurance sector, including members of the BIA executive committee and industry leaders.
The programme began with a recitation from the Holy Quran. An audiovisual presentation on the progress, potential and activities of Bangladesh's insurance sector was then screened, followed by another presentation highlighting Sayeed's work in the sector.
Farzanah Choudhury, managing director and CEO of Green Delta Insurance, welcomed Sayeed with a bouquet. Nasiruddin Ahmed Chowdhury, the company's founding managing director, then draped a shawl over him. A special sketch of Sayeed was also presented to him.
One of the main objectives of the reception was to exchange views on the development of the insurance sector, mutual cooperation and future prospects. The discussions also highlighted the goal of raising the sector's contribution to GDP to 1%.
In her welcome speech, Farzanah stressed the importance of developing the insurance sector and strengthening cooperation among those involved in it.
Speakers included AKM Iftekhar Ahmad, senior consultant at Green Delta Insurance; BM Yousuf Ali, managing director and CEO of Popular Life Insurance PLC and a member of the BIA executive committee; and Nasir Uddin Ahmed, vice-president of Karnaphuli Insurance and former president of BIA.
Towhid Samad, chairman of Bangladesh General Insurance Company, and Nizam Uddin, chairman of the board of directors of Meghna Life Insurance PLC, also spoke at the event.
Others present included Mir Nasir Hossain, managing director of Mir Telecom Limited and former president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry; Dr Mohammad Sohrab Uddin, actuary and former chairman of Jibon Bima Corporation and Sadharan Bima Corporation; and Mahbubur Rahman, former chairman of Eastland Insurance PLC.
Adeeba Rahman, first vice-president of BIA and director of Delta Life Insurance, and Kazi Shakhawat Hossain, vice-president of BIA and chairman of Agrani Insurance, also attended, alongside other insurance sector representatives.
During the main segment of the reception, Sayeed was congratulated and wished success in his new responsibility. He then addressed the guests.
Syed Forhad Abbas Hussain, head of reinsurance at Green Delta Insurance, delivered the closing remarks.
Dinner was served to guests following the formal programme.
