Newly released footage captures the moment accused killer Beau Lamarre-Condon handed himself in to police, four days after he allegedly murdered Sydney couple Jesse Baird and Luke Davies.
“You are under arrest in respect of the murder of two people at Paddington,” Lamarre-Condon is informed by Detective Chief Inspector Glenn Brown as he enters Bondi police station on February 23, 2024.
Minutes earlier, on the drive to Bondi, Lamarre-Condon had made a call to a police assistance line to report a workplace injury, claiming he had been traumatised and bullied at work.
The arrest footage and call audio were released by the NSW Supreme Court on Tuesday after being played to the 15-person jury in Lamarre-Condon’s double murder trial. He has pleaded not guilty to both charges.
After handing himself in shortly after 10.30am, the then 28-year-old was met by a team of lawyers including Detective Sergeant Sasha Pinazza, who led the investigation. He is shown in the video putting his hands briefly behind his head before folding them in front of him.
Lamarre-Condon is standing trial over the shooting deaths of Baird, 26, a former Network Ten producer and presenter, and Davies, 29, a Qantas flight attendant, on February 19, 2024. At the time of the alleged murders he was a NSW police officer.
The defence does not dispute that Baird and Davies died of gunshot wounds from the accused’s police-issued Glock pistol, but the accused’s barrister has foreshadowed he will argue that he acted in self-defence.
The defence case is that Lamarre-Condon panicked after the men died and disposed of their bodies in Bungonia, near Goulburn. Police found the men’s bodies on February 27, four days after Lamarre-Condon’s arrest.
‘My name’s Beau Lamarre’
Crown prosecutor Brett Hatfield, SC, told the jury in his opening address that Lamarre-Condon made a call to a police helpline to report a workplace injury at 10.01am on February 23, as he was being driven to the station by a family member. The jury was played the call on Tuesday.
“Just so you’re not shocked, my name’s Beau Lamarre,” he told the operator in the recorded call.
He alleged he had been “exposed to multiple destruction, death and trauma with minimal support” from police and had been “bullied by multiple NSW Police Force members”.
Lamarre-Condon said during the call that the alleged work trauma had “caused me to not sleep, get anxious, it’s caused me to have some symptoms of schizophrenia”.
“Actually sorry, you know what … just delete that whole thing,” he said. “We’ll just keep it short and sweet.”
Hatfield said during his opening address that he expected the jury would hear evidence Lamarre-Condon had “never been prescribed medication for schizophrenia”.
The recorded prison conversation
In a covertly recorded conversation, Lamarre-Condon told a friend who visited him in prison in December 2025 that he had entered Baird’s home disguised as an Uber Eats delivery driver and had caused Baird’s death but did not intend to hurt anyone. He said he had pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
The friend has given evidence that he wore a listening device during the visit to assist police.
Lamarre-Condon said during the 50-minute conversation: “If I had planned to do this, I’d be, mate, I’d be cool, calm and collected, I’d be there with cleaning equipment ready to go, I’d be there with a f---ing van ready to go, a stolen van, I wouldn’t be using my police-issued motherf---ing firearm.
“I work with youth gangs, you see the kids I work with. I can get a gun. I can get a gun for 10 grand.”
He claimed he had used a key Baird gave him to enter the home. He told the friend he couldn’t knock on the door and speak to Baird that day because he’d “kick off” and call the police, claiming “DV harassment”. The accused said he would have been arrested and “put on an AVO” with “no questions asked”.
The Crown alleges Lamarre-Condon plotted to kill Baird after developing an obsessive and jealous infatuation with him that escalated when Baird ended their casual relationship in November 2023, and that he killed Davies to eliminate a witness.
According to the defence, Lamarre-Condon acted in self-defence after entering Baird’s home in disguise to retrieve some of his belongings. The defence case is that Baird died when Lamarre-Condon’s police gun went off during a struggle and Davies shot himself during a second struggle.
There is no dispute that Lamarre-Condon cleaned the home and disposed of the men’s bodies.
The trial continues.
