A Polish man walking along the Baltic Sea coast on the Curonian Spit is suspected of ignoring warning signs and walking into Russian territory, where he was detained, the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service (VSAT) said on Monday.
Russian officials confirmed they had detained the man, VSAT said, adding that it was clarifying details to decide whether to launch a pre-trial investigation into illegal crossing of the border.
The last time Lithuanian border guards recorded a similar crossing along the Baltic coast from Lithuania into Russia was in 2018.
A crossing in the opposite direction, from Russia into Lithuania, was recorded in 2017.
