Egypt has condemned Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir’s entry into Al-Aqsa Mosque, accompanied by hundreds of settlers and protected by Israeli police, saying such actions violate the sanctity of Islamic holy sites and the historical and legal status quo in occupied East Jerusalem. In a statement on Monday, Egypt’s Foreign Ministry warned that continued violations at Al-Aqsa Mosque could escalate tensions and threaten regional stability. Egypt reiterated its rejection of any attempts to change the status quo at the mosque or impose a temporal or spatial division there. It called on the international community to fulfil its responsibilities, work to halt such practices and ensure respect for relevant international resolutions.
