The Energy Fund (FUNAE) expects to complete the rehabilitation of the fuel station in Palma, Cabo Delgado, by December this year. The station was vandalised during the 2021 terrorist attacks.
The work aims to strengthen fuel supply capacity in the district, where the two stations currently operating are struggling to meet demand.
The information was provided by FUNAE Chairman of the Board Mety Gondola during a monitoring visit on Saturday (24 October) to fuel stations in the districts of Palma, Mecúfi and Metuge to assess the damage and rehabilitation needs.
In Palma, the planned work includes replacing equipment, restoring the tanks and assessing the water and power supply systems to ensure suitable conditions for operations to resume.
According to Gondola, reopening the fuel station will make it possible to better meet the fuel needs of vehicles and boats, in line with the gradual resumption of economic activity.
The director of Palma District Services for Planning and Infrastructure, Celso Nhumaio, said that restoring the facility could ease the pressure on the two fuel stations currently available, which are struggling to meet demand.
During his visit to Mecúfi district, the FUNAE chairman expressed concern about the condition of its fuel station, which was damaged by Cyclone Chido in 2024.
