Major reservoir systems in Telangana are holding substantially less water than their normal storage levels. Nagarjunasagar and Singur projects have recorded low storage, according to the Central Water Commission’s (CWC) weekly reservoir report dated October 22.
Of the eight reservoirs the report covered, Lower Manair recorded the highest storage at 70.01% of its live capacity, followed by Nizam Sagar at 57.91%, Musi Project at 57.72% and Kaddam at 54.15%. Jurala stood at 50% and Sriram Sagar recorded 44.65%.
Nagarjuna Sagar, one of the key projects in the Krishna basin was at just 29.68% of its live capacity. Singur recorded the lowest storage among the eight reservoirs at 11.06%.
All the reservoirs are below normal levels. But the gap between current and normal storage levels is particularly stark at Nagarjuna Sagar. Its current storage stood at 29.68% against a normal level of 79.23%. The corresponding storage last year was 96.61%
Sriram Sagar recorded 44.65% compared with its normal storage level of 97.85%, while the last year figure was 99.11%. Only Lower Manair at 70.01% is comparatively in a better position compared to 100% last year.
