International credit rating agency Fitch Ratings has affirmed Lithuania's long-term foreign-currency issuer default rating at A+ with a stable outlook, the Finance Ministry said on Saturday.
The rating is currently the highest long-term debt rating assigned to Lithuania by the three major credit rating agencies.
According to Fitch, the rating is supported by a credible policy framework, membership of the European Union and eurozone, resilient economic growth, moderate government debt and high institutional quality.
It is constrained by heightened geopolitical risks and the small size of the Lithuanian economy.
The agency also said consistent fiscal policy should help consolidate public finances, although the budget deficit is projected to widen in the near term.
The government plans to run a deficit exceeding the Maastricht limit of 3 percent of gross domestic product.
Government debt is projected to reach 54.3 percent of gross domestic product in 2029, remaining below the 60 percent threshold set by the Maastricht criteria.
