Former National Citizen Party leader Tasnim Jara has criticised Jamaat-e-Islami over the obstruction of a freedom fighter’s burial in Pirojpur.
“Even while in opposition, they are obstructing a burial on a man’s own homestead. What will they do if all the powers of the state are in their hands?” she wrote in a Facebook post yesterday.
Her remarks followed the burial of Manik Posari, 87, a gazetted freedom fighter who had filed a war crimes case against former Jamaat leader Delwar Hossain Sayeedi.
Manik died in Gopalganj on Saturday. Following protests against his guard of honour and burial in Pirojpur, he was laid to rest at his family graveyard in Chitalia village early Sunday under police protection.
Jara said a grave prepared at his family home was filled in by a group of people, forcing his relatives to dig another.
Sohrab Hossain Jewel, secretary of the district Jamaat’s publicity and media department, denied involvement in the obstruction.
