The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) says it is providing vaccines and essential health services to children across Afghanistan with support from the government and people of Japan.
On Monday, October 26, UNICEF said the partnership aims to improve children’s access to healthcare and prevent polio.
UNICEF expressed its appreciation for Japan’s long-standing cooperation, saying every child deserves a future free from polio.
The agency emphasized the need to continue efforts to ensure children have access to vaccines and healthcare services.
UNICEF added that more than 21 million people across Afghanistan are expected to need humanitarian assistance.
According to the agency, many families face limited access to basic healthcare services.
UNICEF stressed that the government and people of Japan have stood alongside Afghan children for years by supporting their needs.
