Zambia Railways Limited says 21 passengers aboard Passenger Train No. 601 travelling from Kitwe to Livingstone have been taken to a health facility for further assessment following reports of suspected cholera cases.
In a press statement made available to ZANIS today, Zambia Railways Limited Manager of Public Relations, Sombe Ng’onga, said the train was stopped in the Chilanga area as a precautionary measure to facilitate the screening of all passengers by health personnel.
Ms Ng’onga said the suspected cases were being assessed in collaboration with relevant health authorities.

Ms Ng’onga said the company was intensifying surveillance on its passenger trains in collaboration with health authorities to strengthen the early detection and identification of suspected cholera cases.
She said the measures included screening passengers, monitoring possible symptoms and facilitating timely intervention to help prevent the potential spread of the disease.
Ms Ng’onga said the interventions were aimed at safeguarding the health and well-being of passengers and railway staff.
She has since advised members of the public to remain calm and rely on official communication from Zambia Railways Limited and relevant health authorities for accurate and verified information.
Ms Ng’onga said further updates would be provided as confirmed details became available, while protecting the privacy and dignity of the individuals concerned.
