Very severe cyclonic storm Arnab is likely to make landfall earlier than expected, crossing the coasts of Andhra Pradesh and Yanam between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam between 2am and 4am tomorrow (28 October) in India, according to a late-evening update from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The department said the cyclone was interacting with the land surface, with its outer spiral band already extending over land.
"Due to faster movement, the landfall of the cyclone is expected early, likely during the early hours around 2am to 4am on Wednesday," the IMD said.
The storm is likely to continue moving west-northwestwards over the next few hours before turning northwestwards and crossing the coasts as a very severe cyclonic storm, with maximum sustained wind speeds of 125–135kph and gusts of up to 150kph, the department added.
