OKC Thunder general manager Sam Presti announced Monday that Cason Wallace has a labral tear in his left shoulder.
Wallace will require surgery, and OKC will provide a timeline once that procedure is completed. The injury occurred during the first quarter of a 108-101 home win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday, when he ran into an illegal screen from Isaiah Jackson.
Wallace was due for a larger role entering this season. The 22-year-old guard became a full-time starter following OKC's decision to trade Lu Dort to the Atlanta Hawks during the summer.
Wallace also inked a five-year, $139 million rookie-scale contract extension on Oct. 18. It further confirms the value of a player who earned an All-Defensive second team selection last season while averaging career highs of 8.6 points and 2.6 assists on 43.2% shooting from the field (35.1% from deep). He recorded a league-leading 150 steals as well.
Presti said Jalen Williams also has a fractured fibula and a dislocated ankle on the left side. He sustained the injuries during the fourth quarter of Sunday's contest, and a timeline will be provided once he undergoes surgery.
