The Kansas City Chiefs reportedly have at least one focus ahead of the NFL trade deadline next month and that focus could lead to a deal with the Buffalo Bills, Indianapolis Colts or Jacksonville Jaguars.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Chiefs are calling around for a wide receiver ahead of the Nov. 10 trade deadline.
“They have been calling around and I don’t think it would be a surprise to see them continue to attempt to add a wide receiver before the trade deadline two weeks from tomorrow,” Schefter said of the Chiefs on The Pat McAfee Show.
“I do think that they will be calling around for wide receivers and they will attempt to look to upgrade that position,” he added.
Why Chiefs need a wide receiver
Kansas City’s wide receiver room could certainly use an upgrade.
Rashee Rice is injured and both he and Xavier Worthy have been disappointments this year. The Chiefs also saw Tyquan Thornton go down with a significant leg injury that will sideline him until at least near the end of the season.
The Chiefs reportedly expressed interest in free agent and former Kansas City wide receiver Tyreek Hill as a potential option, but there’s no telling when Hill will be fully recovered from the significant knee injury he suffered last season, and there’s no telling how good he’ll be.
As a result, we agree with Schefter that the Chiefs are going to try and add someone via trade, and quite possibly on top of signing Hill.
Chiefs trade targets from Bills, Colts and Jaguars
Three names to keep an eye on for the Chiefs are Bills wide receiver Joshua Palmer, Colts wideout Keenan Allen and Jaguars receiver Brian Thomas Jr.
Palmer hasn’t been mentioned in any trade rumors specifically, but his tenure in Buffalo has been a disaster and he’s barely involved in the offense with just four catches for 117 yards.
The veteran wideout is a clear cut candidate in 2027, so Buffalo could opt to unload him now in order to have at least something to show for what has been a disastrous free-agent signing.
Whether or not the Bills would be willing to trade him to an AFC rival like the Chiefs remains to be seen, though.
On Sunday, Schefter and Ian Rapoport reported that the Colts could start selling off pieces if they keep losing ahead of the deadline, and Allen’s name was brought up as a possible trade chip, which makes sense because he’s on a one-year deal.
Thomas is the most intriguing player of the three because of his age and the fact that he had a 1,200-yard season in 2024.
Since then, Thomas has struggled mightily and has become an afterthought in the Jaguars’ offense and ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that “multiple league execs believe Jacksonville will seriously consider trading” the former first-round pick.
Those are three realistic trade targets for the Chiefs to consider and there’s a chance more will come to the forefront the closer we move to the deadline.
