Ramanan says PKR announced its Melaka candidates earlier than in previous elections to give its election machinery more time to prepare.
PUTRAJAYA: PKR is targeting a 70% to 80% win rate in the seats it contests in the upcoming Melaka state election, although its eventual performance will depend on voter sentiment on polling day, PKR vice-president Datuk Seri R. Ramanan said.
He said the party had conducted a thorough screening process for its candidates and announced them earlier than in previous elections to give its election machinery more time to prepare.
“In the past, we announced our candidates only two or three days before nomination day. This time, we are announcing them earlier to give our machinery more time to prepare,” he told reporters after the Dharma Madani and Harmoni Madani programmes here today.
Ramanan said political support could shift in the final days before polling, making it difficult to predict the outcome based on the current situation.
“We may appear strong today, but we do not know what the situation will be like on polling day. Similarly, we may seem weak today, but things could change by polling day,” he said.
He added that the outcome would depend largely on developments during the final two or three days of campaigning and the momentum leading up to polling day.
Meanwhile, clashes between political figures, candidate changes and competition for voter support are expected to put 10 constituencies in the spotlight in the upcoming Melaka state election.
The constituencies are Tanjung Bidara, Duyong, Klebang, Durian Tunggal, Merlimau, Bukit Katil, Serkam, Sungai Udang, Ayer Molek and Machap Jaya.
Each presents its own electoral dynamics, based on the initial candidate lists from Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH).
