Egypt has postponed the introduction of new entry requirements for citizens of Uzbekistan until March 1, 2027, following negotiations between the two countries, according to the press service of Uzbekistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Under the agreement, Uzbek tourists will be able to continue traveling to Sharm El-Sheikh and the Sinai Peninsula without a visa under the existing entry procedures until the new deadline. The restrictions were previously scheduled to take effect on November 1, 2026, and included mandatory advance visas, travel arrangements through authorized tour operators and minimum cash requirements for visitors.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ministry and Uzbekistan's Embassy in Cairo held direct negotiations with Egyptian authorities regarding the planned changes to entry requirements. Following the discussions, the two sides reached an agreement to reconsider the previously adopted decision to tighten entry regulations for Uzbek citizens.
As a result, the implementation of the new requirements has been postponed until March 1, 2027. Until that date, tourists from Uzbekistan may continue visiting Sharm El-Sheikh and the Sinai Peninsula under the existing visa-free procedures.
The new regulations were originally scheduled to enter into force on November 1, 2026. Under the previously announced rules, Uzbek citizens traveling to Egypt would have been required to obtain visas in advance through diplomatic missions.
Tourist visits would also have had to be arranged through authorized tour operators. Additional requirements were established based on travelers' ages and whether they were traveling independently or with family members.
Citizens under the age of 40 would have been permitted to travel only when accompanied by their parents, spouse or children. Families would also have been required to carry at least $5,000 in cash. For independent travelers over the age of 40, the proposed regulations required possession of at least $3,000 in cash.
These requirements were part of the entry restrictions initially expected to take effect in November 2026. Uzbekistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it is continuing efforts to establish visa-free travel arrangements with foreign countries.
The ministry also identified expanding opportunities for Uzbek citizens to travel abroad and simplifying existing travel procedures as ongoing priorities. In addition, the ministry urged citizens traveling internationally to comply with the laws, visa regulations and migration requirements of their destination countries.
Travelers were also advised to respect the national values, traditions and public order of the countries they visit. The existing visa-free entry procedures for Uzbek tourists visiting Sharm El-Sheikh and the Sinai Peninsula will remain in place until March 1, 2027.
