The Green Bay Packers fell in a close game to the Detroit Lions with a 20-17 final score, and even though it was almost a game the Packers won, almost just doesn't cut it in the NFL.
So, the Packers are licking their wounds and trying to figure out where to go from here. Looking back on tape, there's one issue that stands out, and it's even being called "cringeworthy." One player on the Packers' squad has to turn things around to help this team get back in the win column.
The NFL's official website has a piece up about the NFL's Week 7 games and what went down. In it, Kevin Patra notes that the Packers have a Trey Smack problem.
Green Bay Packers' Trey Smack problem called out by NFL analyst
"Packers have a Smack problem," he flat-out says. "Green Bay rookie kicker Trey Smack missed two easy kicks, a 26-yarder on the opening drive and a 35-yarder on the last possession. The first miss was pushed right, and the second was tipped, partly because Smack didn't get enough air on such a short kick."
He adds that with kickers in the NFL today being able to notch 60-yard field goals, "it's cringeworthy that Smack missed two chippies." Ouch.
But he says that Smack isn't the only Packers player to blame.
"Once again, the offense dropped too many passes, including one by Josh Jacobs that would have gone for a touchdown."
So, the Packers have a lot of soul-searching to do before their next matchup, when they play the Panthers on Thursday Night Football.
