For the last five months, the 20 or so residents of the village of Boiço (Tábua municipality) have been ‘living in hell’, writes Correio da Manhã today – all because of a noisy compressor working day and night at the local ETAR (water treatment plant).
The machine makes so much noise that residents say they cannot sleep without ear plugs, and even then it is difficult.
“If this had been outside the house of the mayor, the problem would already have been resolved”, complains one, who adds that Boiço is in something of a cleft stick: since operations at the ETAR were taken over by public entity Aintar, the (awful) smell of living close to a water treatment plant has improved – “but the noise is unsupportable!”
Now, Aintar CEO Ricardo Tavares Sousa says the company is trying to reduce the noise of the compressor, but what will be “impossible”, says CM, is quelling the noise completely.
