Philadelphia 76ers star Jaylen Brown was forced to address reports from Boston Celtics fan favourite Brian Scalabrine about a trade request in the offseason.
The Celtics ended Brown’s 10-year tenure with the franchise this summer by trading him to the Philadelphia 76ers after an openly failed attempt at trading Brown to the Milwaukee Bucks for Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The fallout from the trade has been intense, especially with the Celtics’ history with the 76ers and subsequent tensions between Brown and former teammate Jayson Tatum.
Brian Scalabrine’s claim about Jaylen Brown demanding a trade refuted
Scalabrine recently reported that Brown demanded a trade with the front office before he was moved in the summer, something that Brown has fervently denied to ESPN through his PR team.
“A representative from Jaylen Brown’s team told ESPN that reports that he demanded a trade or presented the Celtics with a list of demands are “10000% a lie.” Brown never requested a trade to Milwaukee, the representative said. After the deal fell through and Boston informed him he’d be traded, his only request was to have input on his destination.”
Brown was hoping to retire as a Celtics legend after winning NBA Finals MVP with the franchise in their 2024 title win, but ultimately lost out to Jayson Tatum in their near-decade-long competition of being the team’s No. 1 option.
The bad feelings that have lingered since Brown was traded are clear to see, with Brown himself bringing it up often in the media. However, he might stop commenting on his relationship with Tatum and the Celtics openly, given the kind of reports surrounding it.
Scalabrine was never an elite player, but he has been a fan favourite and a successful local media personality in Boston after his five-year tenure with the Celtics ended.
With Brown publicly affecting his credibility by refuting the report, it’ll be interesting to see how Scalabrine responds.
