International (DGI) Consult, through the UNICEF supported Enhancing Leadership, Governance and Management Capacities (ELGMC) Project, has trained local government health managers and frontline health workers in Adamawa, Kwara and Sokoto states to strengthen healthcare delivery and improve health outcomes.
The training focused on practical leadership, management, governance and problem-solving skills to improve the implementation of Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health and Nutrition (RMNCAH+N) and Gender Based Violence (GBV) programmes at local government and facility levels.
This was stated Monday in a statement signed by the project coordinator, Wole Alawode, in Abuja.
He said the training was held in selected local government areas across the three states and the workshops addressed gaps identified through previous facility assessments, while equipping participants with practical strategies to identify service delivery challenges, set priorities and develop action plans with clear responsibilities and timelines.
Speaking at the opening of the training in Song local government area of Adamawa state, the executive chairman of the Adamawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Sulaiman Saidu Bashir, stated the need to strengthen leadership and management at the local government and facility levels.
He called on health sector stakeholders to ensure effective programme implementation, particularly to prevent avoidable deaths among women, newborns, children and adolescents.
The chief executive officer of DGI Consult, Dr Gafar Alawode, said the intervention was designed to equip health teams with practical skills to address challenges affecting service delivery and develop solutions that could be replicated across health facilities.
