The people of Ushongo local government area of Benue state have declared support for Governor Hyacinth Alia’s re-election in 2027.
They pledged to support him to consolidate his administration’s reforms and development initiatives.
The declaration was made at Kartyo-Lobi during a thanksgiving and reception in honour of Prof. Gabriel Ngbea, the Federal Civil Service Commission member representing Benue, Nasarawa and Plateau states.
The endorsement is politically significant as Ushongo is the local government area of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Chief Mike Kaase Aondoakaa, SAN.
The people expressed confidence in Alia’s administration, arguing that the challenges of infrastructure decay, insecurity, unemployment and inadequate social amenities could not be resolved within a few years.
They maintained that the governor had made a promising start and deserved another term to strengthen the reforms initiated since assuming office.
Addressing the gathering, Alia said his administration was committed to ensuring that every Benue person had an opportunity to contribute to the state’s development, irrespective of family background or social status.
“I liberate my people,” the governor declared, urging residents to conduct peaceful, issue-based campaigns and shun insults and vilification of political opponents.
Ushongo delivered more than 31,000 votes for Alia in the 2023 governorship election, compared to over 8,000 votes for his closest rival.
