Solar and energy storage systems are also covered by the framework.
The Energy Market Authority (EMA) of Singapore and Energy Commission of Malaysia (ST) have renewed an agreement to strengthen cooperation on cross-border electricity trading, regional power interconnectivity and renewable energy integration.
The renewed memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed on 26 October on the sidelines of the 19th Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW).
It provides a framework for both regulators to strengthen technical cooperation, regulatory exchanges, and knowledge sharing in areas including the planning and reliability of electricity and piped gas systems, and the regulation of wholesale and retail electricity markets.
The MOU also covers the implementation of cross-border electricity trading projects, renewable energy certificates (RECs) and interconnection capacity, alongside collaboration on solar and energy storage systems.
“This can facilitate greater renewable electricity trade, support investments in renewable energy projects, and advance a more interconnected regional power system,” said Puah Kok Keong, CEO of EMA.
The regulators first signed the MOU in October 2020. Both agencies are celebrating their 25th anniversaries this year.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW
Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.
Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.
We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.
If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
