The Miami Heat entered the 2026-27 season with championship aspirations after acquiring Giannis Antetokounmpo in a blockbuster offseason trade. While those aspirations are very much alive and the Heat have time to turn things around, Miami is off to a very inopportune start to their season.
Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Heat lost their fourth consecutive game to start the season, the latest a home contest against the Dallas Mavericks. Miami opened up the season with a 131-106 loss against the Minnesota Timberwolves, one of their three home losses to start the season.
This is the first time that Miami has started 0-4 since the 2007-08 season and just the third time in franchise history. It’s also the first time in Antetokounmpo’s career that he’s lost four straight games to start a season.

Giannis Antetokounmpo has been doing his part to start the year, averaging 28.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 1.0 steal per game while shooting 55.7 percent from the field in 31.6 minutes of play.
The biggest question marks currently center around Bam Adebayo, who has not looked like himself as he and the Heat figure out how to play with their new teammates. In four games, Adebayo is averaging 11.8 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.0 steals, but is shooting just 40 percent from the field and 16.7 percent from three.
The schedule doesn’t get any easier for Miami moving forward, with the Atlanta Hawks, Indiana Pacers, and Los Angeles Lakers as the next three opponents.
