DIMAPUR, OCT 26 (NPN): NSCN-K (Khango-Vusshe) has called for renewed focus on the larger Naga political issue, cautioning against allowing commercial restrictions and immediate economic interests to overshadow the movement’s core objective of securing an honourable and mutually acceptable political solution.
In a press release, the group stated that despite the emergence of numerous factions and groups over the decades, the collective aspiration of the Nagas remained unchanged– to preserve their unique identity, secure legitimate political rights and achieve an acceptable political solution.
It said the unity, perseverance and collective sacrifice demonstrated by the Nagas through adversity must continue to guide the movement until their political aspirations were meaningfully fulfilled.
The group maintained that the focus should remain on the larger political question rather than being diverted by immediate commercial interests, monetary considerations or measures that contributed little to the ultimate objective. It also stated that non-Nagas who had long resided in Nagaland and engaged in legitimate businesses and other lawful occupations were entitled to have their rights and interests addressed within the framework of the law.
According to the group, any regulation of commercial activities must be lawful, reasonable and justifiable, rather than arbitrary or discriminatory. It stressed that protecting Naga identity and political rights should not come at the expense of the lawful rights of others.
It said the present juncture called for constructive political engagement, strengthening common ground and a united effort towards an early and acceptable solution. It cautioned against allowing peripheral issues, commercial restrictions or attempts to command public attention to overshadow the cause for which the Naga political movement had endured for generations.
The group stated that the success of the movement should be measured not by control over commerce or the ability to impose restrictions, but by progress towards securing political rights and achieving an acceptable solution.
NSCN-K (KV) said Nagas deserved a clear political direction, a cohesive vision and a future founded on dignity, identity and lasting peace.
It urged all concerned to remain steadfast in their priorities and channel collective strength towards an honourable, inclusive and acceptable political solution for the Nagas.
