(CNS): Work to expand the facilities at the Joanna Clarke Primary School in Savannah, which began before the half-term break last week, will continue as classes resume this week and beyond, according to a release from the Ministry of Education.
The phased project, being carried out by the Public Works Department, includes expanding the school’s assembly hall and staff room, adding more parking spaces and improving the school grounds. As construction progresses, nearby residents and motorists may experience occasional noise, increased construction activity and temporary traffic disruptions.
Most construction activities are expected to take place outside regular student drop-off and collection times, with any traffic impacts anticipated primarily during the late afternoon and early evening, the ministry said. Traffic mitigation measures are in place to help minimise inconvenience to motorists and the surrounding community.
The public authorities involved said they are committed to ensuring the safety of students, staff and visitors throughout the construction period. The school will be open and operational throughout the project, with construction areas secured and separated from spaces used by the children and staff.
If any construction activities affect regular school hours or student drop-off and collection arrangements, parents will be informed in advance directly through the school, as appropriate. “Motorists travelling in the vicinity are encouraged to exercise caution and observe any temporary traffic or safety signage,” officials stated.
The ministry said that it and the Department of Education Services “extend their sincere appreciation to staff, parents, motorists, and nearby residents for their patience and understanding as these improvements are carried out for the benefit of the school community”.
