IPOH: Police have arrested three 19-year-old men suspected of working as loan shark enforcers, allegedly committing acts of mischief, including splashing paint, in several incidents around Taiping.
Perak police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said the three suspects, including two college students, were detained in separate raids in Penang on Oct 22.
“Interrogations revealed that the three suspects, who have been active since September, admitted to being involved in acts of mischief at several locations, receiving payment of between RM500 and RM1,000 for each job performed.
“With the arrest of these three suspects, police have solved nine mischief cases across several states, including Perak, Kedah, Penang and Johor,” he told a press conference at the Perak Contingent Police Headquarters here today.
He said police also seized three vehicles — a Proton X70, a Honda City and a Nissan Teana — as well as three mobile phones.
Mohd Alwi said background checks showed that none of the suspects had previous criminal records. The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief and Section 435 of the same Code for mischief by fire or explosive substance.
In a separate development, Mohd Alwi said police had detained 30 individuals, including Japanese and Chinese nationals, in the state capital between Oct 23 and Oct 26 for their suspected involvement in two online fraud syndicates.
He said all the suspects, aged between 21 and 41, had been remanded to assist in investigations under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating and Section 120B of the same Code for criminal conspiracy.
