JJ McCarthy’s first start as Giants’ QB vs. Texans
Just under a month after being traded to the Giants, McCarthy started his first game of the year, replacing Jameis Winston. He only started 10 games in his two years with the Minnesota Vikings, who drafted him in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
McCarthy completed 20 of 28 passes for 252 yards. The Giants rushed for four touchdowns. Cam Skattebo, Devin Singletary, Tyrone Tracy Jr., and Winston all scored one. McCarthy only rushed for one yard.
Malik Nabers and Malachi Fields benefited the most from McCarthy starting. The former logged 111 yards on seven catches, while the latter had 83 yards on four catches.
The Giants’ defense held CJ Stroud in check. He only averaged 5.5 yards per attempt, passing for 153 yards on 28 pass attempts. He did throw two touchdowns, though.
Now, the Giants await the result of the Week 7 Monday Night Football game. Their divisional rivals, the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia 76ers, will play on Monday Night Football. The loser of the game will drop to 2-5.
The Giants lead the NFC East at 4-2-1. Philadelphia and Dallas are tied in second place at 2-4, while the Washington Commanders are right behind them at 1-4-1. The Giants will next play the Philadelphia Eagles coming out of their bye in Week 9.
