At least one person was killed and seven others injured when an under-construction building’s roof collapsed in Multan on Tuesday. Rescue 1122 reported the incident near the city’s Northern Bypass. Rescue teams continued searching the site for anyone trapped beneath the debris.
The roof of an under-construction plaza collapsed near the National College of Business Administration and Economics. Rescue 1122 said its teams reached the site within three minutes of receiving the alert. The agency launched a search and rescue operation soon after arriving.

Rescue officials recovered seven injured people and shifted them to Nishtar Hospital. They also moved the deceased person’s body to the hospital. A hospital spokesperson confirmed that one person had arrived dead, citing hospital records.
A rescue official told that eight labourers were present at the construction site when the roof collapsed. However, officials could not rule out the possibility of other people trapped under the wreckage. Rescue teams planned to remain at the location until they completed the operation.
Rescue 1122 deployed 10 vehicles to support the emergency response. These included five ambulances, three rescue motorbikes, one rescue vehicle and one fire vehicle. The operation focused on rescuing victims and clearing the collapsed structure.

According to the Nishtar Hospital spokesperson, three injured people suffered head injuries. Doctors had yet to determine the nature and severity of those injuries. Three other patients sustained minor injuries. Hospital doctors and paramedical staff remained on high alert in the emergency department.
Building and roof collapses frequently occur in Pakistan, often amid concerns about safety standards and construction materials. Earlier this month, a school roof collapse in Peshawar killed a teacher and 30 students. In September, two men died when a house roof collapsed during heavy rain and a windstorm in Pakpattan. On June 30, a tuition centre roof collapse in Lahore’s Kahna area killed 14 children.
