The Kano State House of Assembly has screened and confirmed six commissioner nominees submitted by the state executive for appointment into the State Executive Council.
The nominees were screened and confirmed during a plenary session presided over by the Speaker, Jibril Ismail Falgore.
The exercise followed a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Lawan Hussaini, and seconded by the Minority Leader, Usman Abubakar, seeking the approval of the House to screen and confirm the nominees.
Speaking during the plenary, Hussaini said the nominees had satisfied the constitutional and administrative requirements for appointment as commissioners and members of the State Executive Council.
He noted that the House was impressed by their professional expertise and experience, pointing out that several of them had previously served as commissioners, while others had held prominent public offices, including Chairman of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC).
Hussaini added that the resolution of the House on the screening and confirmation would be formally transmitted to the executive arm for swearing-in and the allocation of portfolios.
Speaking after the exercise, one of the confirmed nominees, retired Air Commodore Salisu Yusha’u, pledged to work closely with security agencies and local communities to strengthen security and promote peace at the grassroots.
Yusha’u, who described himself as a security expert, said collaboration with relevant stakeholders remains essential to addressing security challenges and sustaining peace across the state.
Another nominee, Prof. Sani Lawan Malumfashi, a former chairman of KANSIEC, stressed the importance of science and technology education, innovation, and entrepreneurship in empowering citizens.
He stated that promoting these sectors would equip residents with practical skills, foster self-reliance, and contribute significantly to the state’s socioeconomic development.
