ZAMBIA has assumed the first chairpersonship of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Regional Computer Incident Response Team Steering Committee in a move aimed at strengthening cybersecurity across Southern Africa.
The Zambia Cyber Security Agency says its Director General, Dr Schmidt Chintu, took up the position on September 17, 2026, for the 2026 to 2027 period.
The Agency says the appointment will help Zambia strengthen cooperation with other SADC member states, improve the sharing of cyber threat information and enhance technical expertise to protect citizens, businesses and public institutions.
It says the regional team provides a platform for member states to share information on cyber threats and coordinate responses to cyber incidents that cross national borders.
The Agency says the regional cybersecurity framework was adopted in 2019 and is now being put into operation.
It says Dr Chintu will lead the Steering Committee in strengthening regional cooperation and building a safer digital environment to support public trust, business and economic development.
The Zambia Cyber Security Agency says it remains committed to working with regional partners to strengthen cyber defence and protect digital systems across the region.
