Japanese brokerages have been named among the underwriters for Anthropic's initial public offering, with Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley serving as lead underwriters.
According to Japan's Nikkei on the 27th, the registration statement (S-1) that Anthropic disclosed the previous day listed Mizuho Securities USA and MUFG Securities Americas among the underwriting brokerages.
Anthropic plans to raise funds not only from investors in the United States but also from those residing in other major countries. According to the registration statement, the offering includes public offerings in Australia, Canada, some member states of the European Economic Area (EEA), Japan, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. For Korea, by contrast, the company drew a line, saying that shares "have been offered and sold in Korea through private placement under the Financial Investment Services and Capital Markets Act, and will continue to be offered and sold through private placement."
Japanese brokerages have steadily built a track record in large U.S. listings. Mizuho served as a lead underwriter alongside Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan Chase for the 2023 U.S. listing of Arm, the U.K. chip designer owned by SoftBank Group, and for PayPay's U.S. listing in March 2026. It was also the only Japanese financial institution to join the underwriting group for SpaceX's U.S. listing in June.
MUFG, meanwhile, has maintained a close strategic alliance with Morgan Stanley since 2008. With Morgan Stanley taking part as a lead underwriter for Anthropic's listing, MUFG joined the underwriting syndicate.
Anthropic's registration statement did not specify the number of shares to be offered or the targeted price range. The market, however, expects Anthropic's valuation to be set at between $1.5 trillion and $2 trillion. Some suggest it could surpass SpaceX, which posted the largest IPO proceeds on record in June this year.
