Households in four areas of Hong Kong’s Eastern district have been left without fresh water after a pipe burst in Shau Kei Wan, with authorities expecting the water supply to resume before midnight.
A video circulating on social media on Tuesday showed water gushing from the ground at a worksite near a bus stop, with an excavator parked nearby.

The Water Supplies Department said on its website that the water supply was cut at 11am, affecting Sai Wan Ho, Shau Kei Wan, Aldrich Bay and the area from A Kung Ngam Road to Island Garden.
Eastern district councillor Wong Chi-chueng told the South China Morning Post that the burst pipe was outside 312 Shau Kei Wan Road and was suspected to have been caused by construction work carried out by a Highways Department contractor.
