The Punjab traffic police say that people holding foreign driving licence may also be able to obtain a Pakistani driving licence, subject to the applicable requirements.
According to the traffic police of Punjab, such licences are issued exclusively by motorway police.
Applicants must undergo the required driving tests, similar to those taken by other applicants.
The main advantage is that the process may be completed in a single day.
The Punjab government has also introduced an online tracking facility allowing driving licence applicants to check the status of their applications from home using their Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) number.
The service is available through the Driving Licence Information Management System (DLIMS), eliminating the need for applicants to visit traffic licensing offices simply to obtain updates on their licences.
How to check your driving licence status
Applicants can check their licence status by following these steps:
- Search for “DLIMS Tracking” online and open the official tracking portal.
- Enter the 13-digit CNIC number without dashes.
- Complete the security verification (CAPTCHA) displayed on the screen.
- Click on “Track License” to view the latest status.
Once the information has been submitted, the system displays the current status of the driving licence.
If the message “Your regular license is in printing queue” appears, it means the licence is awaiting printing.
After printing is completed, the licence is dispatched to the applicant. A Pakistan Post tracking number is then provided through the system, allowing applicants to follow the delivery of their licence on the postal service’s website.
