Two people were killed and two others seriously injured after unidentified assailants opened fire from a black Scorpio SUV in the Angadpura locality of Moga town in Punjab late Sunday. The deceased have been identified as cousins Sahil Jindal and Gagan Jindal, while the injured were rushed to a hospital for treatment.
According to the report, five people were standing outside their homes when the assailants arrived in a black Scorpio and fired indiscriminately before fleeing the spot.
Moga Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sartaj Singh Chahal said an investigation had been launched and police teams reached the spot soon after the incident. Three empty cartridges have been recovered from the scene, while a forensic team was also called in to examine the area.
“Prima facie, five people were sitting outside their homes when a black Scorpio arrived, and the assailants inside opened fire. We have recovered three shells from the spot. A forensic team was also called to the spot. We are checking nearby CCTV cameras,” Chahal said.
Police said the exact number of rounds fired has not yet been established. However, eyewitnesses claimed that the assailants fired around 15 to 20 rounds.
Preliminary findings suggest that the incident may be linked to personal enmity, police said. The victims’ family has also named some suspects, and investigators are looking into the allegations as part of the probe.
