In a TikTok video posted on 21 October 2026, @lifewithtariro discussed the financial, medical and legal advantages available to eligible military families while completing her nighttime skincare routine. She also revealed that her husband had served in the US Navy for more than a decade.
Her account attracted attention online, particularly among women interested in the practical benefits of being married to a member of the US military.
Zimbabwean woman explains immigration and healthcare benefits
The woman began by discussing immigration, explaining that military spouses may have access to specific immigration procedures when accompanying their partners on overseas assignments.
However, military marriage does not automatically guarantee a green card or a US passport. Eligibility and processing times depend on the spouse's circumstances and the applicable immigration rules.
Healthcare was another major benefit she highlighted.
She explained that before getting married, she had accumulated thousands of dollars in medical debt in the United States. Her situation changed after gaining access to TRICARE, the US military healthcare programme for eligible service members, retirees and their qualifying family members.
According to her account, an urgent care visit costs her approximately US$25 (about KSh 3,250), while an emergency room visit rarely exceeds US$100 (about KSh 13,000).
Her experience illustrated the financial relief that eligible military families can receive through healthcare coverage, although costs vary depending on the beneficiary's status, healthcare plan and type of treatment as reported by Briefly News
Housing allowances and home loans among the benefits
The Zimbabwean woman also discussed housing assistance available to military families.
She explained that some families can live in military housing, while others may receive a housing allowance to help cover rent or mortgage payments when living off base. The amount and eligibility depend on factors such as duty station, rank and family circumstances.
One benefit she particularly appreciated was the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) home loan programme.
Eligible borrowers can use VA-backed loans to purchase a home without a down payment, provided they meet the programme's requirements and satisfy the lender's conditions. The benefit is not an automatic entitlement for every military spouse, and repeat use depends on the borrower's remaining or restored loan entitlement and other applicable rules.
She also mentioned tax-free shopping at certain military installations, educational scholarships for military spouses, employment assistance and access to legal support.
The range of benefits she described prompted viewers to discuss the financial advantages that can come with military family life.
