Bloomberg has reported that the United States is planning to deport some Afghan asylum seekers to Pakistan.
According to the report published on Monday, October 26, some detained Afghans have been told they will soon be sent to Pakistan or Afghanistan.
The deportation flight is expected to take place in the coming weeks, but the plan has not yet been officially announced.
Among those affected are relatives of Afghans who worked with the U.S. military before the Taliban took control of Afghanistan.
AfghanEvac, an organization that helps Afghans relocate to the United States, said it had received at least 30 reports of possible transfers of Afghans since October 14.
The reports concern 15 detention centers across 11 U.S. states.
AfghanEvac has called on the U.S. government to clarify the intended destination for those facing deportation.
The organization also urged the government to give them an opportunity to raise concerns about the dangers they could face if returned to Afghanistan before any transfer takes place.
