Kris Jenner is the Kardashian closet’s caped crusader.
The momager, 70, swooped into the “All’s Fair” Season 2 premiere in Rome Saturday, wrapped in Elizabeth Taylor’s velvet scorpion cape.
Fans already got a glimpse of it on Kim Kardashian in the Season 2 trailer earlier this month. The reality star explained the connection on her Instagram Stories.
“Fun fact about the cape my mom is wearing. It belonged to Elizabeth Taylor, and my mom now owns it and graciously let me wear it in All’s Fair,” Kardashian, 46, wrote after the premiere.
“After Ryan Murphy heard the story of Elizabeth Taylor wearing it to Grace Kelly’s Scorpion Ball, naturally, he made sure to write an episode about Allura Grant throwing her own Scorpion Ball,” she continued, referring to her character on the Hulu legal drama, which returns Nov. 4. “I’m the luckiest girl to have borrowed it from my mom.”
Jenner bought the cape at auction, according to a press release sent to Page Six Style. It last sold publicly at Christie’s in 2011, fetching $74,500 in a sale of Taylor’s personal collection.
For her turn in it, Jenner styled the piece with white gloves peeking out from under long white cuffs. She added a diamond lariat necklace strung with dozens of pear-shaped stones, plus diamond shooting star earrings.
Made by Roman couture house Tiziani, the cape features an ivory silk lining and embroidered diamanté scorpions. Taylor wore it to Princess Grace’s 40th birthday party in Monaco in 1969, a Scorpio-themed affair in honor of the royal’s zodiac sign. (Jenner, who turns 71 on Nov. 5, also shares the star sign.)
Taylor topped off the custom piece with the 69.42-carat Taylor-Burton Diamond, a gift from then-husband Richard Burton that year.
Kardashian nods to that pairing in the trailer, wearing the cape with more than $2.7 million in Leviev diamonds. Sarah Paulson’s character, Carrington Lane, also gets a spin in the archival grail.
Apparently, sharing is caring in the Kardashian-Jenner household, even when Elizabeth Taylor’s wardrobe is involved.
