After going 2-10 last season, the University at Albany football team has cracked the Football Championship Subdivision Top 25.
The Great Danes made their season's debut in the national rankings at No. 25 in the American Football Coaches Association poll released Monday.
UAlbany (5-3 overall, 3-1 Coastal Athletic Association) continued its climb by beating Rhode Island 38-21 on Saturday in Pawtucket to snap the Rams' 17-game home winning streak, which had been the longest in the FCS.
"Obviously, we're getting some eyes on us, right, with what we're doing," Great Danes first-year head coach Tom Perkovich said. "I don't take a ton of solace in polls, to be honest with you, but it's nice to be recognized. It's an honor for our players. But, as we know, we've got another really, really good football team coming into our place this weekend. This is one of the best quarterbacks in the country."
The Great Danes will face No. 15 Campbell (7-1, 4-0), led by quarterback Kamden Sixkiller, in a CAA showdown at noon Saturday in Casey Stadium.
Like UAlbany, the Fighting Camels were 2-10 last season.
The Great Danes were first among other teams receiving votes in the Stats Perform FCS media Top 25 poll also released Monday. Campbell was ranked 12th in that poll.
UAlbany was last ranked early in the 2024 season.
