A popular winter footwear choice might not be as safe as you thought.
According to a 2025 report from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System, slippers cause approximately 20,800 emergency room visits a year, and 40.3% of those accidents lead to a fracture or hospital stay. The head is the most common injured area, as opposed to the foot or ankle for other footwear types such as boots.
Surprisingly, high heels result in half the number of ER visits, coming in at close to 10,300.
