The House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream) has thrown out a petition against Executive Vice President of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL, Downstream), Dr. Mumuni Dagazau.
This followed the reported inability of the petitioners; Coalition for Transparency and Accountability in Nigeria’s Petroleum Sector, to substantiate the allegations of “conflict of interest, and money laundering” against Dagazau.
Speaking during a resumed meeting of the committee on Monday, its Chairman, Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere also disclosed that its sub-committee investigating another petition against NIPCO PLC over some oil licencing issues have been given a 14-day extension to conclude the exercise.
On Dagazau, he said “As a responsible Committee of the House, we did not ignore the petition. We referred it to a Sub-Committee, and both sides were invited to appear between Wednesday, 21st and Friday, 23rd October 2026.
“The petitioners appeared once, on Wednesday, 21st October. To support allegations as grave as money laundering, they brought nothing but newspaper clippings. The Sub-Committee gave them the opportunity to return on the following days with valid documents. They did not return on Thursday. They did not return on Friday. They simply abandoned the petition they had brought.
“On the other hand, the Executive Vice President honoured the invitation of the Committee through his representatives, who answered every enquiry put to them to the satisfaction of the Sub-Committee…
“Having considered the report of the Sub-Committee, this Committee has today resolved to dismiss the petition in its entirety. No evidence was placed before us in support of any of the allegations.”
The committee noted that recent reforms by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led government have been paying off. “This Committee has therefore resolved to commend the management of NNPC Limited and the Executive Vice President (Downstream), Dr. Mumuni Dagazau, for a job well done,” he said.
The committee has also rolled out its plan of activities to ensure downstream energy security across the country, including enforceable crude supply local refineries, amendment of the PIA, a regulated import market; and a National Strategic Stock among others.
