The Election Commission of India (ECI) has told the Supreme Court that no changes have been made to Form 6, used for voter registration, under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. It has also maintained that all decisions related to the exercise were taken unanimously by the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the two Election Commissioners, Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi.
In an affidavit filed in response to a petition alleging that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar was taking decisions in the name of the Election Commission without the approval of the other two Election Commissioners, the poll body strongly opposed the plea, describing it as not maintainable.
The Election Commission said the petition was based solely on a single newspaper report and therefore lacked a sufficient basis to proceed.
The affidavit itself was unanimously approved by the Chief Election Commissioner and the two Election Commissioners, the poll body informed the apex court.
The Election Commission also argued that the prayer seeking to restrain Gyanesh Kumar from functioning as the Chief Election Commissioner was not maintainable.
